this work intends to survey the Soviet-American relations throughout the 1980s. Considering the general assertion that the nature of the Soviet-American relations differed from the first half to the second half of the 1980s, the work is divided into two main chapters. Chapter I examines the U.S.-Soviet relations until 1985. Based on the opposing ideologies, capitalism vs. communism, both countries adopted specific international objectives, which are described to a greater extent in the related subchapters I.1 and I.2, including an assessment of the general political climate between the two superpowers. Due to the fact that each of the respective foreign objectives had a special focus, the subchapters 1.1.1 and 1.2.1 describe the Soviet Navy and American SDI as those represented unique parts of the Soviet or American foreign policy objectives. Finally, Chapter II investigates Soviet-American relations in the second half of the 1980s, focusing on the transition of the relations" climate from hostile to temperate.
