Andreas Bärtels zählt mit seinen zahlreichen Publikationen zu den namhaftesten Dendrologen in Deutschland. Er wirkte lange Jahre als Technischer Leiter des Forstbotanischen Gartens in Göttingen, war Geschäftsführer der Deutschen Dendrologischen Gesellschaft und später deren Vizepräsident.
