Nicht demokratische Vollinklusion, sondern interne Exklusion charakterisiert die europäischen Zuwanderungsgesellschaften. MigrantInnen sind Teil von Politik und Gesellschaft und strukturell doch von bestimmten Segmenten und Gütern ausgeschlossen. Das Buch will mit dem Konzept Inklusion / Exklusion einen Beitrag zur Erklärung des Zugangs zu ungleichen, abgestuften Rechten und Ressourcen leisten. Im Fokus stehen materielle und symbolische Mechanismen und Bedingungen, Einstellungen und Diskurse, die diese differenzierten Rechte und Zugehörigkeiten von MigrantInnen produzieren. In politisch-theoretischen und empirischen Beiträgen wird verhandelt, wie über welche räumlichen und zeitlichen Kriterien der Zugang zu sozialen und politischen Rechten geregelt wird, welche Konflikte und Aushandlungsprozesse über disaggregierte Staatsbürgerschaft im Gange sind, welche politischen Akteure involviert sind und wie Teile der Zivilgesellschaft gegen Exklusion protestieren.

Internal exclusion, rather than full democratic inclusion, characterizes European immigration societies. Migrants build a part of politics and society, yet they are structurally excluded from participation in certain segments of the life. The edited volume aims to contribute to the explanation of the unequal access to differentiated rights and resources by using the concept of inclusion and exclusion. It focuses on material and symbolic mechanisms and conditions, attitudes and discourses, which produce differentiated rights and belongings of migrants. The book includes both conceptual-theoretical and empirical contributions. The topics addressed include: how spatial and temporal criteria regulate the access to social and political rights, which conflicts and negotiation processes over citizenship are taking place, which political actors are involved in these processes, and how civil society protests against exclusion.>
