In this volume the authors discuss a broad range of approaches to the image within religious traditions and in the contemporary culture. On behalf of case studies mainly from the European context, it focuses on visual media as votive paintings, work of art, reliefs, material objects, caricatures, documentary and feature film. The methodological challenge of the visual in religion is discussed with contribution from the perspective of the study of religion, hermeneutics and theology.
